NOVA Lions: Saturday, July 18 Match Notes
Goal Kicks (Possession)
- CB + CM deep with GK for build out
- ST will frequently the open player. Needs to start to high and find space to breakout from press.
Defensive Transition
- “Where’s the danger?”, “Ball, Player, Space.”
- Communicate to help teammates understand dangerous situations.
- Need to be aware of the numerical advantage opponent may have on transition.
- Closest player to the ball with immediate press.
- Sprint to cover middle.
Kill the Play!
- If there is a contested ball with pressure on the player’s back in defensive half, use the goal keeper a support pass get wide.
- Look to “Kill the Play” by retaining possession.
- We do not win the ball if we just whack it away from the opponent into contested space.
